The attorney, Hannah Alexander of the nonprofit Workers Defense Project, indicated that, based on conversations with workers, there is a possibility of underreported injuries at the factory.
Furthermore, the attorney drew attention to a tragic incident that occurred on September 28, 2021, involving the death of a construction worker named Antelmo Ramírez. According to the Travis County medical examiner’s report, Ramírez died of heat stroke while contributing to the construction of Tesla’s expansive Giga Texas factory. This incident, along with other injuries and fatalities, raises concerns about the completeness and accuracy of Tesla’s injury reports.
In response to potential discrepancies, the Workers Defense Project had previously filed a complaint with the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on behalf of Giga Texas workers. The complaint alleged that Tesla’s contractors and subcontractors provided false safety certificates and inadequate training, suggesting that workers were receiving certifications without proper training.
The attorney advised caution in interpreting Tesla’s injury reports, emphasizing the need to scrutinize the accuracy of submissions against the actual experiences of workers.
